Chiropractic is a form of therapy designed to improve motion in the joints and function of the muscles and ligaments. All of this along with the goal of reducing pain.
Chiropractors are experts at treating conditions of the spine including: neck pain; lower back pain (including sciatica); mid back pain; and rib pain. However, they also work on many other joints including elbows, wrists, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and feet.
Chiropractic treatments will often look different depending on the needs of the patient and the individual practitioner, but most often include adjustments (SMT); muscle work; and mobilizations. Adjustments involve positioning the patient and delivering a small specific force to a joint with the goal of restoring motion into that joint.
Additionally, home based exercise is given tailored to the individual patient. If needed the practitioner might recommend shockwave therapy, ultrasound; taping or rock floss. Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality (different from units in hospitals) designed to help muscles relax; promote healing and reduce inflammation in an area. Tape is used to stimulate muscles; reduce swelling and reduce pain symptoms. Rockfloss is a band that is wrapped around a muscle while stretching is performed with the goal of reducing tension on the fascia.
Dr. Brittany and Dr. Luke both have additional training in cranial adjustments. These are pressure point adjustments that focus on the different plates of the skull. This type of therapy is useful for new born babies; kids after falls involving hitting the head; headaches; migraines and concussion syndromes.
